Etihad Museum
Dubai, United Arab Emirates ยท Rating: โ 4.5
Our Review
The Etihad Museum brings to life the remarkable story of the founding of the United Arab Emirates. Located at the very site where the UAE's constitutional treaty was signed on December 2, 1971, the museum offers a deeply personal and interactive journey through one of the most significant moments in modern Middle Eastern history.
Designed by Canadian firm Moriyama & Teshima Architects, the museum's striking contemporary architecture symbolizes the shape of a manuscript, with its curved white roof evoking the graceful lines of Arabic script. Inside, eight permanent pavilions guide visitors through the events leading to the union, featuring original photographs, films, personal testimonies from the founding fathers, and interactive timeline installations.
The highlight of any visit is the restored Union House โ the actual building where Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and the rulers of the seven emirates signed the declaration of union. Walking through these preserved rooms, with their original furnishings and the very table where history was made, provides a uniquely moving experience that no digital recreation could replicate.
