Masmak Fortress

The Masmak Fortress is where the story of modern Saudi Arabia begins. This imposing clay and mud-brick citadel in the heart of old Riyadh was the site of the legendary 1902 raid in which the young Abdulaziz ibn Abdul Rahman Al Saud captured the fortress from the Rashidi garrison, an event that marked the beginning of the Third Saudi State and ultimately led to the unification of the Kingdom in 1932.
